Updated: August 23, 2016 8:19 amDays after the Indian Army reportedly conducted a cross-border raid targeting the NSCN (Khaplang), Myanmar on Monday assured India that it will not allow any insurgent group to use its territory against India.External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, who visited Myanmar on a day-long visit, held talks with the country’s top leaders on key bilateral issues, including cross-border activities by certain insurgent groups.“Myanmar leadership assured that they will not allow any insurgent groups to use their territory for action against India… they all recognise (India) is a friendly country which has stood by the people of Myanmar, and they look forward to a very productive partnership with India, as Myanmar continues on its journey of peace, progress and development,” said MEA’s official spokesperson Vikas Swarup.“Both sides agreed to make efforts to ensure peace and security along the shared border. The Myanmar side stated that activities of insurgent groups would not be countenanced from Myanmar territory and suggested that this issue should be addressed and taken forward through cooperation in established bilateral forums,” sources said.In the first high-level visit from India after the civilian government assumed office, Swaraj called on Myanmar’s President U Htin Kyaw and held extensive talks with State Counsellor and Foreign Minister Aung San Suu Kyi.
